How to find M49
This guide uses bright stars first, then narrows the field for a telescope or binocular finder. Use Leo as the main sky landmark.
Follow the route from one recognizable star to the next until you reach M49.
M49 is only 3° above the horizon, so the view is likely to be poor. No suitable observing time was found during the next two nights.
Use Leo as the large-scale sky landmark before following the numbered route.

From Denebola, move about 1.8° toward the east until you reach field star · mag 6.7.

From field star · mag 6.7, move about 5.7° toward the south-east until you reach field star · mag 5.8.
